Senate Republicans Refuse to Hold Hearings Before Nominee Is Even Announced

U.S. Supreme Court building in Washington D.C.Just as a couple of Senate Republicans had started to make reasonable statements about the Senate doing its constitutional duty and considering President Obama’s eventual nominee to the Supreme Court, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Grassley announced that the Committee will not hold hearings.
Against the weight of the clear language of the Constitution, the importance of the highest Court in the land functioning at full strength, and the fact that there is ample time for a fair and thorough confirmation process to take place, Republican Senators have decided to play politics with the Supreme Court. This is unprecedented and disgraceful— and contrary to the mainstream views of the public. Republican Committee members should reconsider this dangerous line in the sand.
