On the heels of the confirmation of Patricia Millett on Tuesday, the Senate confirmed law professor Cornelia (Nina) Pillard to the second vacant seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit early this morning.

Professor Pillard is now the second of the three exceptionally qualified individuals nominated to this important court to be confirmed. Following her confirmation, the D.C. Circuit now has five active women judges serving together for the first time in its 120-year history. And this second-most important court in the country is one step closer to having a full complement of judges to hear the cases of national importance and impact that come before it.
